Slaytanic Xmas Monday

Gorehound Productions (Splatter Cinema, Atlanta Horrorfest) are putting on a Horror X-mas Party that is where you need to be. At Graveyard Tavern in East Atlanta.

Chucks speaks (in third person for some reason)

A spooky time was had by all when Zombie Cat held a reading of their play based on their 48 Hour Film Festival entry “The Story That Changed History” in Adel, Georgia Friday morning.

Hosted by local theater director Jeremy Williams, approximately fifty young and eager Cook County High School students were in attendance, with most having a part to read. A few days beforehand, Jake traveled to the school to show them the short film that inspired the epic play, as well as some of Zombie Cat’s other works. When the entire team arrived early in the A.M., the students quickly threw their hands up in the air, full of questions to ask about the film business and what it’s like to be so damn creative.

After answering their perusals, it was time for business, and the room soon got quiet and serious. Assigning parts, Jeremy signaled for everyone to start.
Laughter, tears, heartache, joy; the students reading and their audience were enraptured. The play, which claims to tell the true story of Lincoln’s assassination (he was a werewolf, Booth the werewolf-hunter), went off without any major hitch, save one where genius playwright Charles Thomas inserted a random speech he had dreamed up for the Lincoln-Wolf. The team quickly decided the speech was too long and eradicated it.

After the play was finished, the students erupted in cheering and hurrahs. They deemed it “perfect,” which Zombie Cat already knew. However, a few points were raised and sent Charles into a creative frenzy. He hopes to have these points updated soon and the play ready for launch.

After the reading, the team thanked the students and fled to a nearby Waffle House to compare notes and wait for the delicious Mecca of food that is the Royal Buffet to open. During the meeting, it was decided to change the title. With that accomplished, they parted ways.

Look for “The Story That Changed History, or THAT LONG ASS NAME JAKE SAID” coming to your town soon!

[Molly here. The name change is "The Story That Changed History (or The True Story of the Supernatural Events Surrounding the Assassination of Abraham "Werewolf" Lincoln)".]

Golden Globe Nominees are in

The nominees have been announced for the Golden Globes. I am having trouble getting excited about it. I always want the underdog to win for sure, but there are some of these films that I thought were amazing, a few I didn’t like at all, and a few that haven’t come out yet. How can I get excited for films who will be released eventually? Anyways, weigh in, and let me know what you guys think.

Neil Gaiman is coming to Decatur!!

** repost for LSOS

Little Shop of Stories is maniacally thrilled to announce that Neil Gaiman will be speaking at co-host Agnes Scott College on Monday, December 14, 2009, at 6 p.m.

For the unaware, Mr. Gaiman is an author who is active in a variety of forms of storytelling, including adult fiction and non-fiction, children’s books, graphic novels, and film. His latest work is Odd and the Frost Giants, a children’s chapter book.

As fans of Little Shop know, Neil sent out a challenge to independent bookstores to throw a Halloween Party themed to his Newbery Award-winning The Graveyard Book. We threw such a frightening scare into everyone who came to Little Shop’s party that we were named a grand prize winner and awarded this visit. (Congratulations to co-winner McNally Robinson Booksellers in Winnipeg!) In return, Neil and Harper Collins Publishers have won our everlasting and undead affection.

This will be a ticketed event. You must have a ticket to get in. A ticket will guarantee you a seat. If you arrive at the event without a ticket, you are not guaranteed admittance. In fact, the probability of getting in without a ticket are virtually nil. Because we want to accommodate our fantastic customers who played such an integral role in getting this event, but at the same time acknowledge Neil’s hard-core fans from outside the Atlanta area (some of whom are willing to travel hundreds of miles), here’s the plan:

* On Monday, November 30th, tickets will be available to those who come in person to Little Shop of Stories. There is a limit of one ticket per person, so if you would like to bring your entire family to see Neil, bring your entire family into Little Shop to get tickets. As per Neil’s specific request, tickets are absolutely free.
