Steampunk Atlanta

2 Free Industry Building Events, 1 Evening

Quantel is Seeing REDtm Clearly 5:00 – 7:00 PM

What ATL365 will be showing and discussing:

RED One: PC&E will have a RED camera there and we will be shooting footage. Experts will be on hand to answer questions and provide tips on shooting RED.

RED 4k Workflow: Everyone is talking about it and well be showing it. FRom shooting and dailies on FCP, editing to grading, finishing and deliverables on the Pablo 4k. The Quantel RED workflow eliminates the need for the intermediate DPX stage.

Soft Sam: An innovative new technology that simplifes and compliments the file based workflow by facilitating direct 3rd party file access to Quantel without creating any new files. You just have to see it!

Pablo Neo Panel: Desinged and developed by colorists, and quite possibly the coolist looking piece of hardware that you have evver seen in a finishing suite.

We hope that you can join us for this very interesting and interactive event. Our highly experiienced and knowledgable staff will be on hand to discuss everything from RED workflow to HD, color grading and even Stereoscopic 3D.

Send david.black@quantel.com and we’ll save you a seat.

Chuck visits the Five Spot to roaring applause

The bar patrons of the 5 Spot in Little Five Points got some unexpected film education in their faces when Molly gave a rousing speech about the Atlanta film industry yesterday. The bar was hosting a “Reclaim Independence Day” event, celebrating all things independent and non-corporate, and what better way to show that than with some independent film discussion?

Despite being early in the day, a crowd had formed inside the relatively good sized venue, and was treated first to an interesting marching band type group. One chick even had an accordion. They covered some Gogol Bordello songs, which just so happens to be a favorite of Molly’s. Chuck was actually intrigued and thought he might check some more of their stuff out later.

Chuck speaks out! His account of the 48 Hour Film Project

“Are we doing the 48 this year?”

The question. THE question. It got bounced around quite a bit between the three of us.

“We don’t have the equipment. Or the time. Or the resources.”

Which we didn’t, really. So obviously we made the decision not to do it this year, which in turn led us to making a stop motion film in just 48 hours.

“Are you crazy?” one might ask. A viable question, and the answer to that might be a resounding “Yep,” but coming from one that has tremendous delusions of grandeur, we were confident we could pull it off. Never mind we had no idea what we were doing. Never mind the only experience any of us had with stop motion was childhood dabblings with toy dinosaurs and VHS tapes. We’d figure it out, right? We had an editor who was willing to work with us so we could just concentrate on filming, so at least there was that.
